General Class Policies

General Class Requirements and Guidelines

These are non-subject-specific.

  1. Materials Required: You must have your school-issued Chromebook with you, and fully charged, every day. Spanish students need to bring their folder/binder with them every day with the handouts that I have given them and told them to keep.

  2. Behavior Expected: Be a kind human being. Participate in class, and be polite to your classmates. I will not tolerate bullying or bigotry of any kind in my classroom. Cell phones should be silent and out of sight during class. Basically, don't disrupt the learning in the classroom, and we won't have any problems.

  3. Grading Policy: We will have the occasional homework assignment, along with classwork, quizzes, tests, and projects. Grading is based on a total points system. So your grade is however many points you earn, divided by however many points were possible, times 100. Easy peasy. All assignments will be posted and grades tracked in the Google Classroom, so you can always easily keep track of everything in one place. Small assignments = few points. Big assignments = Lotsa points. If I give you days to do something, then it will be worth days' worth of points. Which means, don't waste class time. I offer bonus points each quarter, but those are for EXTRA work, so you will have to do the regular work first.

  4. Late Work Policy: Look, I understand that everyone is busy. Everyone has bad days, or fails to plan ahead. Maybe we have work due the next day and you also have Biology homework due and you have a sports game that means you don't get home until late. Everyone could use a little less stress in their lives, so I am willing to accept the work late for partial, or possibly even full credit, depending on what the assignment is and how far out you were told about it. No assignment will ever become a zero unless 1) the grading deadline for the quarter passes - I will only accept quarter 1 work during quarter 1, or 2) you cheat and I catch you. If you cheat (that includes plagiarizing, and using translators for my Spanish students) then you will not only receive a zero, but you will not be allowed to make up the zero, or earn any bonus points for the quarter - you can see the About page for more info.
